The box arrived with cheerful grace,

A grin spread slowly ‘cross my face.

“My trusty walker’s finally here!

Adventure calls… perhaps with gear.”

The leaflet smiled with calm delight:

“Ten minutes. Easy. Built just right.”

Ten minutes? Oh, what splendid fiction,

A masterpiece of pure conviction.

He tightened this, he loosened that,

Then wondered, “where’s that bracket at?”

At minute thirty I confess,

The kitchen echoed with… distress.

By forty-five, with aching knees,

It stood assembled, I was pleased.

A robust, sturdy, splendid beast,

Prepared for every lane, at least.

“It looks badass” my friend declared,

“The best walking aid that’s ever dared!”

And looking at its rugged stance,

I thought, “It does deserve a chance.”

It’s got a seat for weary body,

A cup holder for tea or coffee.

A pannier too, for books and bag,

All the essentials for this old hag!

But here’s the bit that sealed the deal,

The tyres! Oh yes, they’re quite unreal.

Pneumatic beauties, bold and round,

For cobbles, tracks and bumpy ground.

No more defeated by uneven lanes,

Or muttering softly about my pains.

I’ll simply roll with lofty pride,

My faithful chariot by my side.

So if today you hear a shout,

Or see a blur careering about,

Don’t panic if I thunder through,

I’ve got a test drive planned to do!

Make way, dear world, clear every track,

For here I come rolling back.

With wheels, with seat, and dog in tow,

Who knows just where I'll choose to go?

Ready… steady… roll!
