Still Gallivanting!

Some think that in the later years,

Life settles to a crawl.

That dreams grow old and fade away,

Or cease to matter at all.

That days are spent in comfy chairs,

With blankets, books and tea.

While memories replace adventures,

Of what you used to be.

But purpose has a different view,

It smiles and winks with glee.

And whispers, "Look, there's more to come,

Just wait and you will see."

There's books to write and paths to walk,

New hobbies still to try.

Friends to meet and places yet,

To catch the wandering eye.

The knees may creak, the back may groan,

The joints may voice concern.

Yet curiosity still burns bright,

With lessons left to learn.

For purpose doesn't disappear,

When working days are through.

It simply changes shape a bit,

And waits to be renewed.

It may be found in helping hands,

In kindness freely shared.

In wisdom passed to younger souls,

Showing someone that they're cared.

It lives in gardens lovingly grown,

In volunteering time.

In saying "yes" to something new,

Or chasing long-lost dreams sublime.

A steep hill may require a pause,

To "admire the view," of course.

And certain grand adventures now,

Need careful planning and due force.

Yet hearts still dance with possibility,

And spirits long to roam,

For purpose isn't tied to age,

Nor confined to hearth and home.

So here's to all the senior souls,

Still answering life's call,

Still galavanting when they can,

And not quite done at all.

For age's just another chapter,

Not the final page to see.

And purpose keeps on travelling,

Wherever life may lead.
