BLOOD MOON RISING

When the blood moon rises in the velvet sky,

I’ll gather what I’ve carried and let the old things die.

The stories that have tethered me, the words I never said,

The ghosts of who I used to be, I’ll lay them all to bed.

I’ll loosen every holding, release what isn’t mine,

Let sorrow meet the darkness; surrender to the night.

No more dragging yesterday into the dawn of who I’ll be,

No more asking broken pieces to remember how to breathe.

For the moon does not apologise,

For waxing, waning, whole.

She simply changes shape and still,

Remains entirely whole.

So let her crimson shadow fall,

Across my weathered skin.

Let everything I’ve outgrown,

fall away and begin.

And if tomorrow finds me changed,

Then let it be so bright,

I’ll leave the woman I once was,

Beneath the blood moon’s light.

For I have not been broken,

I have not become undone.

I have shed what I no longer need,

And stepped towards the sun.

And somewhere in the darkness,

Where old endings disappear,

The woman I am becoming,

Is already waiting here.
